In a special election in April 2022, Matt Haney was elected to the California State Assembly, winning a 25+-point victory and winning in nearly every precinct in his San Francisco district on a pro-housing, pro-labor platform.

Haney had represented District 6 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 2019 to 2022 and served as a commissioner on the San Francisco Board of Education from 2013 to 2019.
